“Good for Collaboration but Syncing Could Be Better”

Sharing notes with colleagues and coworkers is quite simple using Obsidian, which has been great for group projects during college. However, synchronization is not always the best when I reconnect to the internet.

Pros : I like how collaboration is easily done. I can share notes with my friends and coworkers quickly. It is handy for college group projects.

Cons : The offline use is not the smoothest since I have found out that syncing is not always on point when I get back online.

Switched from : nTask

Reason to switch : nTask was too focused on task management. Obsidian had more flexibility and overall is a better tool.

“Lightweight and Future Proof but Needs Better Mobile App”

Obsidian’s use of Markdown files is a huge plus. I like how future-proof it is and how light it feels. When I need to check my notes while on the road, it can be annoying because the mobile app is not as optimized.

Pros : I like that I can use the Markdown files. It feels lightweight and super future-proof.

Cons : It has a limited mobile app. The app is not as smooth or feature-packed as the desktop version.

Switched from : Basecamp

Reason to switch : I moved to Obsidian since Basecamp was too much like a project management tool rather than a note-taking tool.

“Nice Visual Organization but Needs Better Grouping”

I like how Obsidian's color-coding tool makes note-organizing exciting. But if I do not keep up with tidying things up, the UI may quickly become cluttered. It can feel a little disorganized at times.

Pros : I like organizing things visually. Being able to color-code my notes makes organizing more fun and easier to sort.

Cons : The interface can get cluttered sometimes. If I do not clean up daily the notes get messing since there is no functional way to group them.

Switched from : Google Keep

Reason to switch : I moved to Obsidian since I wanted a more powerful note-taking software than Google Keep managing my projects.

“Good for Notetaking Across Devices”

I can access my notes from anywhere because Obsidian functions well on my PC, iPad, and phone. Huge projects might be challenging to organize due to the absence of folders.

Pros : It has cross-platform compatibility. It is great since I can access my notes on my phone, tablet, and laptop without any worries.

Cons : The organization is basic. It does not have any folders. The labels are good but can be limiting.

Switched from : Notion

Reason to switch : Obsidian was more simple and a good offline-first option. The notion was too dependent on the internet.

“Handy for Reminders but Lacks Advanced Features”

The location-based reminders from Obsidian are useful. It is like having my own personal secretary. However, the features are limited in terms of productivity. To better organize my work, I wanted something with more features.

Pros : The reminders are great. Especially the location-based reminders, it feels like I am having a personal assistant.

Cons : I wanted more advanced options for my productivity. It has very minimal features and felt too basic for me.

Switched from : Microsoft OneNote

Reason to switch : I needed a simpler and more lightweight tool to stay focused and Obsidian did just that.

“Best for Customization but Syncing is a Hassle”

Obsidian allows me to use so many amazing community plugins, including task management ones. It truly enables me to personalize my process. However, syncing multiple devices can be a bit of a pain.

Pros : There are so many cool plugins that let me do things like task management thanks to community plugins.

Cons : There is no built-in sync or set up something like Dropbox. This makes syncing across devices a hassle.

Switched from : Notejoy

Reason to switch : I moved from Notejoy to Obsidian since it was more flexible and a more customizable tool with better organization options.

“Amazing Search Feature but Needs More Security”

The search feature in Obsidian is great. I save a lot of deal of time since I can easily and quickly locate old notes. But for more security on some notes, I wish there were a way to apply a pin lock.

Pros : I like how there is a search functionality. I can find older notes easily with the integrated search bar.

Cons : There is no pin lock. I wish I could add an extra layer of protection for some notes.

Switched from : Coda

Reason to switch : I needed a more straightforward and flexible solution for my notes, and Obsidian was miles ahead of Coda.

“Voice-to-text notetaking”

When I do not feel like typing, Obsidian's voice-to-text tool comes in handy. But when I am brainstorming for bigger projects, it is annoying that I cannot make sub-notes.

Pros : I like how I can use the voice-to-text feature. When I am too lazy to type, this feature comes in handy for me.

Cons : I cannot create sub-notes or a structure within a note. This isn't very pleasant when brainstorming for big projects.

Switched from : Evernote

Reason to switch : Evernote felt too cluttered and slow for my needs. I wanted a faster, more focused tool.

“Great for Building a Web of Ideas”

I love how I can link notes together and create a visual map of my ideas. It is super customizable, but it took me a bit of time to figure everything out. The lack of built-in sync was an inconvenience.

Pros : It is easy to use and the design is simple. I can start writing notes and ideas without any interference.

Cons : It does not offer formatting features. I wish I could bold, italicize, underline text, etc. but you cannot do that here.

Switched from : ClickUp

Reason to switch : I moved to Obsedian since ClickUp felt too structured for my personal use.

“For Linking Ideas but Lacks Security”

I really appreciate how Obsidian helps me organize my thoughts by allowing me to connect notes and create a "web" of related concepts. However, I am afraid to keep anything important because of the lack of encryption.

Pros : I can link notes together and create a “web” of ideas which is great.

Cons : There is no encryption. I do not feel safe storing sensitive information since it does not offer proper security.

Switched from : Workflowy

Reason to switch : I moved from Workflowy to Obsidian since I needed something that let me explore ideas and a more dynamic solution.
