“My Go-To Notetaking App for All Devices”

The best thing about Joplin, which I have been using for a long, is how well it functions on all my gadgets, including my iPad, laptop, and phone. At first, setting it up with Markdown was a little challenging, but as I figured it out.

Pros : It has the best cross platform compatibility amongst the solutions that I have tried. I like that I can use Joplin on my phone, laptop, and tablet.

Cons : When I was figuring out Markdown it was frustrating at first. There was quite a learning curve at first.

Switched from : Obsidian

Reason to switch : I moved to Joplin since I needed a true cross platform app with offline capabilities, Obsidian did not fully offer this.

“Open Source with a Supportive Community”

Joplin is open-source and has a vibrant community. Knowing that I am a part of something that was created cooperatively makes me happy. The main drawback is the few sync conflicts, which are frustrating when they do occur.

Pros : I love using open-source software, especially Joplin since it is also backed up by a nice and enthusiastic community.

Cons : I sometimes encounter sync conflicts. It does not happen often but when it does it is annoying.

Switched from : CherryTree

Reason to switch : I needed a more modern open-source tool with better syncing options and Joplin was just that.

“Simple and Organized Notetaking with Tags”

Joplin's tagging mechanism is great for keeping my notes organized. Although I occasionally wish it had more flashy features, like templates or integrations, to make it feel less basic.

Pros : I like how I can apply tags to keep all my notes organized without forcing me into folder structures.

Cons : It lacks certain flashy features like templates or integrations, Joplin might feel too basic for some people.

Switched from : Microsoft OneNote

Reason to switch : I switched to Joplin since I wanted a solution which was lighter and straightforward for organizing notes.

“Personalized and Functional Notetaking.”

With features like dark mode and layout adjustments, Joplin's user interface feels more like my own program. But the search function should be easier to use, particularly when I am trying to find certain terms.

Pros : The customizable UI is great since it allows me to use dark mode or change how things look. It gives great personality to the application.

Cons : Personally, I feel like the search could have been better. The search feature is okay, but it is not as intuitive when I search for specific phrases.

Switched from : Simplenote

Reason to switch : Simplenote was too plain and lacked customization options.

“Handy Web Clipper for Organizing Everything”

Joplin's online clipper tool is fantastic; it allows me to capture entire pages, simply the content, or even screenshots directly into my notes. However, in comparison to programs like Notion or Evernote, the rich text editor may use some improvements.

Pros : The web clipper feature is a big win. I can save entire pages; it can be just the text and the screenshot as well straight into my notes.

Cons : The rich text editor feels a little unpolished compared to other software such as Notion and Evernote.

Switched from : Zettlr

Reason to switch : I wanted to collect and organize content from the web better that is why I switched to Joplin.

“Offline Notetaking Done Right”

Joplin functions flawlessly offline. I have no trouble accessing and editing my notes, even whether I am in a no-signal area or flying. At first, I had some trouble setting up sync.

Pros : No internet, no problem. It gives full offline freedom and comes in handy. I can still access and edit my notes.

Cons : Sometimes setting up sync is not the smoothest experience. It was complicated at first and I had struggled.

Switched from : Standard Notes

Reason to switch : I moved to Joplin since I wanted more offline functionality and more flexibility in organizing my notes.

“Secure Notetaking with Great Encryption”

I have the peace of mind that my notes are in a secure vault thanks to Joplin's encryption. It would be convenient to log in and view everything without having to install the app, however I do wish the web app had more functionality.

Pros : I like that is has good encryption, I feel a lot safer knowing my notes are end-to-end encrypted.

Cons : The web app is limited and not fully functional. Sometimes I wish I could just log in anywhere without downloading.

Switched from : Logseq

Reason to switch : I moved from Logseq to Joplin since I wanted stronger security features for my notes.

“Free and Dependable”

Not having to worry about paying monthly fees unless I choose to help the developers is a welcome change. The user interface is the sole drawback; while functional, it feels a little antiquated and could need some changes.

Pros : There is no subscription required so there is no pressure to pay monthly fees. It is free unless I choose to support the developers.

Cons : The UI feels outdated. It is functional and basic but I wish it had more to it.

Switched from : Zim

Reason to switch : I moved to Joplin since Zim did not offer the flexibility I was looking for.

“Clean and Organized Notetaking with Markdown”

I appreciate how neat and organized my notes look because to Joplin's Markdown functionality. Real-time collaboration is the one thing I am missing; it would be ideal if I could exchange and edit notes with others.

Pros : It offers Markdown which makes it feel so clean and organized. Formatting is easy once I got the hang of it.

Cons : I wish that it had more collaboration features. I miss being able to share and edit my notes with others in real time.

Switched from : sNotes

Reason to switch : sNotes did not have the Markdown feature and did not suit my workflow.

“Multimedia-Friendly Notetaking App”

Joplin is great for organizing everything I need because it allows me to connect PDFs, photos, and voice notes. The calendar and task management features are the only things lacking.

Pros : It allows me to use attachments and other multimedia content. I can add PDFs, images and even audio notes.

Cons : I wish it had a built-in calendar or task integration feature. I must rely on external tools for managing tasks and deadlines.

Switched from : Notesnook

Reason to switch : Notesnook did not manage attachments as effortlessly as Joplin does.
