Veeam can now back up Microsoft 365 and Azure along with Cirrus by Veeam Service. Several companies and enterprises, including Asigra, Clumio, Cohesity, Druva, etc., have primarily focused on delivering backup as a software-as-a-service (SaaS).

They firmly believe that SaaS is the future of backup solutions. Initially, Veema was not actively involved in this market, except for their strategic partnership with an Australian-based company known as CT4 in February this year.

However, their partnership has not taken a new turn. Veeam has decided to acquire CT4’s Cirrus cloud-native software, which can add up a Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) layer at the top of Veeam’s existing and restore software.

The CTO of the company, Danny Allan, was quoted saying in a recent interview that “The company is ranked as the #1 global leader in offering services around data protection and ransomware recovery”. They can now cater to the customers’ unique needs by offering trusted capabilities for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.

To add to this, Veeam has invested money in Alcion, a SaaS-based backup startup that was founded by Niraj Tolia and Vaibhav Kamra. They had also laid the foundation for a container-based app that was bought by Veeam for $150 million in the year 2020.

Veema and its partners can now sell the Cirrus Microsoft 365 and Azure BaaS to approximately 45,000 customers. It has recently decided to extend its robust BaaS coverage to other key SaaS-based apps such as Salesforce and ServiceNow.

Well, Veeam is now all set to launch an upgraded and seamlessly integrated version of its Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution in the early quarter of 2024, and that will be accessible via Veeam service providers, which includes the Microsoft Azure marketplace, and Veeam’s online store.
