G20 Summit: Delhi CM Kejriwal Says ‘YES’ to Public Holidays on Sep 8, 9, 10

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday, gave his nod on the Delhi Police proposal of declaring public holidays on September 8, 9 and 10 in the view of G20 Summit.

During the above mentioned dates, all schools, government offices and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), will remain closed.

Sources have informed that all private offices including banks and financial institutions under the Delhi Police’s New District will also remain closed.

Officials said that the file has now been sent to the Lieutenant governor for his consent. A public notification will be issued regarding the same once approved by him.

“The file on the police proposal was forwarded by Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to the Delhi chief minister for his approval. After the chief minister’s approval, it would be sent for LG’s nod,” said the officials.

The Special Police Commissioner of the Delhi Police Madhup Tiwari, had on Aug 18th, penned a letter to the Chief Secretary, suggesting a public holiday on Sep 8, 9 and 10 in view of the security measures to be taken during the G20 Summit.

The G20 Summit will begin on September 9 and will conclude on Sep 10th at the recently-inaugurated state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam convention centre at Pragati Maidan. Many dignitaries including US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to be attending the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
