New Delhi: Philadelphia-based big data startup, dbt Labs Inc, stated that they are now going to enhance their dbt Cloud Offering with new features. They will offer dbt Explore, Cloud CLI, and a revamped dbt Semantic Layer. Additionally, the company is introducing dbt Mesh, a data mesh architecture paradigm.
The startup has secured a substantial amount of funding over the years. They got a significant funding of $222 million in February 2022. That funding round brought the company’s valuation to an impressive $4.2 billion.
The Company has launched the following:
Data Mesh for more efficient data paradigm: At dbt Labs’ Coalesce 2023 event, the company unveiled its strategic focus on issues like data silos, bottlenecks, and low data quality. These issues often arise when organizations heavily depend on a single, centralized data platform like a data warehouse or data lake. To tackle these challenges, dbt Labs is introducing a “data mesh.” This architectural framework is designed to resolve advanced data security challenges through a system of distributed and decentralized ownership.
Updated dbt Semantic Layer to easily define business metrics: The latest Semantic Layer update allows organizations to define key business metrics centrally within dbt and then utilize these metrics through integrated analytics tools such as Tableau, Google Sheets, Hex, and Mode.
This results in consistent definitions for important metrics like “revenue,” “customer count,” and “churn rate” across all data projects, applications, and user interactions.
Tristan Handy, the Founder and Chief Executive of Dbt Labs, emphasized the significance of this development for the dbt Semantic Layer. He said that “First, our customers now have access to the fully integrated best-in-class technology that we acquired in the Transform acquisition.”
Moreover he stated “Second, our customers can use the dbt Semantic Layer with two of the most widely used data analysis tools, Tableau and Google Sheets, with additional integrations available right now and more integrations coming soon.”
New feature upgrades: Dbt Labs is also introducing dbt Explorer, a documentation and lineage visualization tool that supports the dbt Mesh paradigm, making it easier for users to discover, understand, and reuse dbt assets from different teams. Furthermore, the Cloud CLI allows developers to contribute to dbt data using their preferred integrated development environment.
According to bdt Labs, the company is expanding its ecosystem by developing adapters for Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure Synapse. This will enable users to leverage dbt Cloud’s data transformation capabilities.
