Nokia has introduced a series of SaaS-based fixed network solutions while reducing the dependency on IT support. It can be availed on a usage-based subscription to reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 25%.

According to Sandy Motley (President of Fixed Networks Business Group, Nokia), SaaS does not require any extra IT setup, so operators can start using it right away.

With the help of ‘Wi-Fi Cloud Controller’ and ‘Altiplano Access Controller’, operators can now deploy Nokia’s fixed network apps via a SaaS-based delivery model.

Motley further says that operators can customize their subscription package by selecting the levels of support & SLAs they need to match their operational demands. As per him, they can also set up several Nokia SaaS instances to be used in the development, testing, pilots, and production.

Operators can choose to scale up/down their subscription plans depending on their business needs. They wouldn’t have to worry about infrastructure-related issues so they can simply focus on their main business operations.

Commenting on this news, Julie Kunstler, (Chief Analyst, Omdia) says that this SaaS model offers users the benefit of choosing not to run applications on expensive and complicated on-premises infrastructure. Further, it also provides more flexibility as well as better opportunities to deliver new services.
