Elon Musk Fires Key Executives Including Parag Agrawal (CEO, Twitter)
Elon Musk took control of Twitter late this Thursday after the deal was completed and he fired top executives, including Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal. The list also includes Vijaya Gadde, the legal, public policy, trust, and safety head, as one of his first acts as the microblogging site’s owner.
Following the resignation of firm co-founder Jack Dorsey, Agrawal was named CEO in November of last year. Even when Musk owned majority ownership, he publicly critiqued the company’s management. However, when Musk announced his intention to cancel the agreement, Agrawal continued to work on it. Musk alleged that Twitter was hiding the actual number of bot accounts, which put him at the centre of his accusations against the social media site.
According to a story published last week, Musk intends to reduce Twitter’s workforce by 75%. Although the process has already started, Musk informed the site’s employees that he doesn’t want to fire 75% of the personnel. That doesn’t exclude him from reducing Twitter’s existing staff size, though.
Reportedly on Wednesday, Musk visited the company’s headquarters, San Francisco holding a bathroom sink and a caption, “Entering Twitter HQ – let it sink in.”. Later, he also published a letter outlining the rationale behind his purchase of Twitter and his future goals for the platform.
